Benefits of the GUARDUCT System Quick, easy and labour saving installation. The split duct is laid open inside the trench in a double U configuration, the cables laid inside one half of the duct, the duct closed and the clips snapped closed. Cost analysis on complete installations indicates that cables laid with the Guarduct System are significantly cheaper fully installed compared to conventional cable installation techniques. Fibre optic cables can be laid without exerting tension on the cable. Typically drawing fibre optic cables into a closed duct exerts tension on the cable which can damage the cable resulting in expensive replacement costs. When using the Guarduct System, the fibre optic cables are merely laid in the open duct without applying any tension to the cable. It can be retrofitted around existing cables. When an existing trench is opened during general construction or during the laying of additional cables, the Guarduct System can easily and quickly be retro-fitted around exposed cables to ensure their protection. Above ground, it provides a cost effective alternative to cable trays. A fully integrated suspension system allows the duct to be secured to ceilings, floors (e.g. below access flooring) and vertically and horizontally to walls. Cables can be accessed at any point along the duct. This eliminates the need for manholes, which are a significant cost contributor and are a collection point for water and moisture, are a general source of failures and provide access to unauthorised persons. During the initial cable installation, additional draw ropes can be laid in the duct to be used for installing future cables. When drawing in cables in traditional ducting systems the cables tend to rotate making any draw ropes pulled in with the cable unusable. Eliminates the need to sieve the soil when filling in the trench. Traditionally cables buried directly in a trench are first covered with sieved soil to protect the cables against the abrasiveness of stones. Sieving the soil requires additional labour and is time consuming and costly. Protection to the cables after installation. Where cables are buried directly in the soil they are exposed to damage during secondary digging. The Guarduct System provides effective protection against this. Protection of cable joints and cable junctions. The Guarduct System is ideal when used to protect cable joints and junctions, even in electrical installations where cables are not typically housed in ducts. The Guarduct System does away with the need for cable tiles or warning tape. Since the Guarduct System is made of strong materials, there is no need for warning plates like cable tiles, or any additional protective or warning devices. Sections of duct containing cable joints can be sealed to prevent ingress of water or moisture. Cable connection points are often the areas most affected by moisture and degradation. With the Guarduct System, it is possible to seal these connection points prior to closing the ducting system. It is compatible with existing ducting systems. The Guarduct System can be connected to existing duct systems by means of the patented hinge and locking mechanisms. The Guarduct System is rodent resistant. Significant savings in bulk transport costs. Where solid ducts are used transportation costs can become a significant cost contributor. The Guarduct System is transported in stacked bundles of profile with the duct sections being stacked into one another. This means that approximately 5 times more units can be transported per load, significantly reducing transport related cost per unit.
